Khloe is a Poochi – half Toy Poodle half Chihuahua

Here’s what Khloe’s mom has to say about her!

Khloe is a 10 pound ball of fluff and love. You may say that she’s spoiled but I say that she’s loved. She’s a hugger (she’ll actually wrap her front paws around you) and a kisser and she’s guaranteed to brighten the day of anyone she meets! I found Khloe at the Tanque Verde Swap Meet when I was vacationing in Tucson, Arizona and it was love at first sight. I knew Khloe was meant to come home with me and join the family when my boyfriend pointed out that we both had the same hair – color and curls.

English is Khloe’s second language as she was raised in a Spanish speaking home for the first 8 weeks of her life. I had to dig all the way back to my high school Spanish lessons in order to communicate with her first family enough to get her. With some help translating from the surrounding Swap Meet attendees, I was able to muddle through the communication barrier and bring my little 3 pound fur ball home.

Khloe 3

Since I was on vacation, home was first a hotel room but Khloe didn’t mind one bit. She charmed the hotel employees, the airline staff on the return flight and continues to charm everyone she meets. To Khloe, the best treat in the world is a good cuddle which is perfect because she’s such a lover that she givesas many kisses as she gets. As long as she’s with her pack of people she’ll happily go anywhere and do anything. She’s the best and she’s loved to pieces!Khloe-1

Bentley – Dog of the Month

Bentley is the happiest Golden Retriever puppy you’ll meet! He loves to nap, play and gnaw on his peanut butter filled Kong.

From butterflies to wood chips, he’s a food vacuum to say the least. Bentley is also very patient and makes friends everywhere he goes!

His best friend is Bonnie the Yellow Lab who comes to the back door when she wants him to come out and play.

Dogs O’ the Month – Nuka & Sheena

Owner: Jocelyn McRae – Prestige Custom Builders (customer of ZD)

Hooooowwwwlll!  We are Nuka & Sheena, brother & sister Alaskan Malamutes.  We love to talk and howl; we only bark if something is really wrong.  Mom brought us home at 8 weeks old and has had her hands full ever since.  We are now 8 years old and are just figuring out that we are no longer pups.  What do you mean that we are WAY TOO BIG to be lap dogs?  Weighing in at 130 and 141 pounds we almost outweigh both our humans and can’t understand why they don’t want us on the furniture or trying to crawl onto their laps.

IMG_2083   IMG_2172

Sheena (AKA: Princess) is a tan and white female malamute.  She is known to be human shadow who is happiest glued to her human’s side, on a pile of dirty laundry or curled up in the smallest space she can fit herself into.  She is the boss!  She steals Nuka’s toys and doesn’t even play with them, just lies on top of them.  But give her a soccer ball, or basketball and she is a four legged Pele’ until she gets her mouth around it and pops it. She can never get enough attention, petting, tummy rubs or hugs!

Nuka (AKA: Mr. Cool) is black & white and according to his owner is “too cool for school”! But if you don’t say hello to him he’ll give you an earful.  He loves to lounge around outside all day.  Everyone tells him he’s beautiful and it’s starting to go to his head.  When he’s being petted he wants people to hold his paw, as if they are supposed to kiss his ring like he’s a king.  But he doesn’t look very regal when he is laying around upside down; his gums flapping and with his feet straight up in the air!

These beautiful Malamutes go on long walks every day and are adored by their neighborhood fan base.  Rock on!

Meet Josie, a beautiful and kind 7-month old Golden Retriever born in Arlington, WA.  At only 4 months of age, she had mastered “sit”, “down” and “high-five”.  But when she learned how to retrieve the morning newspaper, her owner knew she had a genius on her hands!

Like most Golden Retrievers, Josie loves the water.  She is quite at home on the family boat and cruising on Lake Washington with the wind in her fur makes her tail wag!  She loves people and her ball with equal enthusiasm.

Her go-to snacks are cheese, meatballs and oranges.  Oranges? Yes!  In fact, she will “spin” for her favorite treats.

DOG OF THE MONTH – November 2013

George and Ava (aka Lucky Dogs)

George is a Border Collie, rescue that we found at the Humane Society in Factoria. He was found running wild on a highway in eastern Washington, wearing a collar that was put on when he was much smaller. As he grew larger the collar become so much a part of him it had to be removed surgically. He’s a very affectionate, intelligent dog that is always more than ready to go on the next adventure. I once saw him herd one of the neighborhood toddlers away from an exterior stairway that he seemed to think was dangerous. On a separate occasion he put a shoulder in to a visiting Great Dane driving him on to his back for barking at one of the arriving neighbor kids. He’s a hero.

Ava is a ninety two pound dog that is the gentle, humorous animal that Rottweilers tend to be. She came to us at eighteen months through Craig’s List from a family that had to re-home her due to health reasons. As our house is a neighborhood meeting place it was very important that she be trusted with the many kids that play in our yard. She has won the trust of all the parents. When she wants attention she’ll chase her tail. She sleeps on her back as often as not and after a year and a half that still makes me chuckle.

Got Lap?

Name:  Dautch II (aka – Big Guy)

Dautch Dog o Month

Sitting in laps, cleaning table tops, counter tops giving the sloppiest kisses imaginable, leaving slobber trails on walls, ceilings, coats, wherever. I’m 6’4” and guess who has weekly ceiling and wall slobber patrol? Walking his mom and dad and meeting friends on the trail. He is the first wet mouth Great Dane we’ve had (fifth Great Dane) and when folks come over to visit we tell them wear your slobber clothes and issue everyone slobber towels. He’s such a friendly dog.

Mom and Dad taught him how to sing when he was a puppy (o what a mistake) so now when he wants to go for a walk or needs attention, he’ll give us that hang dog look and start his song, it’s somewhere in between whining and howling. How can you resist such a cute little guy!

He also loves chasing the flashlight beam on the floor or ground. So fun to watch a “puppy” running/sliding around in the house on a Pergo floor chasing a light beam. Look out!!! I think we are both ready for knee replacements from collisions.

Favorite Food:

T-Bone dog treats, Pigs ears, chicken, and of course dog food with canned Pedigree beef or chicken. He eats 8 cups of dog food and a can of Pedigree a day plus treats. He weighs about 190 lbs.

Dautch is almost 5 years old and we’ve had him since a 14lb 7 week old puppy. He was one of 14 puppies. They were all so cute!!!

Dog of the Month – April 2013

My name is Teddy and I am a very happy 9 year old Bichon/Yorkie mix.  I rescued my human when I was just 1 year old.  I’ll never forget the first time I saw him.  He was wet and hungry and needed a friend.  In fact, he was pitiful looking and I just knew I had to have him.

It’s a pretty even tie between me and my human for who gets more irrationally excited about food. In fact, we no longer go for walks. We go for HUNTS! I so much enjoy the fact that people throw food out their windows while driving. Chicken legs, BBQ ribs, tacos: I call them TREATS!

Teddy wrote his own bio – did we mention he is very smart too?

DOG OF THE MONTH – December 2012

Oinks and squeals – Meet Johnny Cash

Cash is a 40 lb, 4 month old potbelly pig that was rescued from the Taylor Bridge fires this summer. Dr. Erin Zamzow – a veterinarian in Ellensburg rescued Cash as his entire family perished in the fire. She thought Johnny Cash was an appropriate name based on the song “Ring of Fire”. Although Cash is cute and smart – Dr. Zamzow warns that pot belly pigs are a 20 year commitment. Do your research before you buy and be prepared for a strong willed, smart, 100 lb pet that needs a lot of outdoor time and stimulation.

Cash came to the ZippyDogs world headquarters to say hello. We spoiled him with his favorite mommy-approved  treats, a banana and oodles of love, pets and scratches. We were tickled to have this little visitor in our office and we got nothing done that day. If you want to see videos of him – visit our ZippyDogs Facebook page.

DOG OF THE MONTH – November 2012

Meet Lily, short for Lilikoi – our Dog of the Month!

Lily, a Lab/Sharpei/Pitbull mix, was adopted by a couple a few months after their senior dog passed away. They saw her photo online and something clicked, they just “had to see this dog!”

Here is Lily’s story as told by her lucky owner:

“What first drew me to her is that she has a split paw (meaning only 2 large toes) and my partner has the same thing on one of his hands (though his was from a car accident). The first moment we saw her she broke from her old owners and ran straight into my partner’s arms. It was love at first site. Since she has become part of our family she has shown herself to be the most loving and wonderful companion. She even likes CATS! She greatly enjoys hikes in the woods and playing in the river as well as cuddle time on the chaise lounge in our living room. One look at that face and everyone falls in love.”

DOG OF THE MONTH – October 2012

I’m Lenny, the dog formerly known as Isaac.

Seven years ago my first set of humans dropped my sister and me off at the Seattle Humane Society because the didn’t want us anymore.

A family came and put a hold on me. A really nice guy came to see my sister but his female dog and my sister did not like each other. A volunteer suggested they meet me. We hit it off! A day later, the family decided they didn’t want me and I went home with the kind man and his dog Lilly.

He didn’t think the name Isaac really fit me and he named me Lenny. I’ve been happy ever since. He calls me the lover dog because I like to snuggle with him. He also affectionately calls me the Bastard since I came from the Humane Society. He calls my step-sister the Bitch so we are the Bitch and the Bastard.

DOG OF THE MONTH – September 2012

Meet Oscar the Cat, our Dog of the Month

Meet Oscar: the black and white cat-who-thinks-he’s-the-bottom-of-the-pack-beta-dog!
Oscar’s pal is Cleo, the cat-who-knows-she’s-a-cat, and according to their owner, together they’re a lovely pair!

Oscar tried to guard his humans and the house (until he gets scared and runs away), and sticks his head in the closest human armpit when he needs to be reminded of the pack order.

How did this beta dog symdrome happen to Oscar? He was in a house with 4 dogs until his adoption at a year and a half old, so he really does think he’s a dog! Cleo is all cat and tries to run the show until she gets put in her place by her humans.

Oscar’s favorite food: “chicken!”
Oscar’s favorite drug: “cat nip!”

Cleo: “leave me alone I’m studying for my private pilot’s license, and no Oscar, I will not take you along as a co-pilot or baggage handler.”

DOG OF THE MONTH – August 2012

Jude was born on January 17, 2011. By March 14th he was attending his first birthday party (and stole Deputy Dog’s thunder at her own party)! His owner is a Seattle Firefighter, and Jude grew up in the firehouse.  Jude and his owner are also proud members of the Northwest Disaster Search Dog organization and Jude loves scrambling over rubble to find hidden people during training.  Aside from Jude’s excessive drooling, he’s a perfect gentleman! WOOF!

DOG OF THE MONTH – July 2012

Meet Ally

We adopted Ally from a local rescue group called PUPS: People United for Pets. They are based in Issaquah, and we had a few dogs that we were interested in. PUPS had an adoption fair at the Kirkland Petco, and we fell in love with our Ally on Feb. 19th, 2012. She became part of our forever family that day, and has been a wonderful companion to us every since.

Ally is 2-3 years old, and is a funny mix of whippet, terrier, and we think a little bit of beagle. She has super long legs, but is only 20 pounds. That girl can run! She loves to scamper after her ball, and is eager to please us with her commands. We’re working on getting her to stay when someone comes to the door… she’s already queen of the house, so that’s a big one to work on!

We can’t say enough good things about PUPS. They rescue lots of dogs, and especially small dogs, from high-kill shelters. Ally was in a foster home with a loving family (who gave her her name) for about a week before we adopted her. During that time, she was spayed and thoroughly checked out by a vet. The volunteers and foster families treat the dogs with love and care until they can be adopted.

PUP Dog Rescue – check them out!

Dog of the Month – June 2012

Meet Bo and Bea!

Meet Lord Harrington’s Bodacious Beauregard and Beefeaters Buxom Beatrice; also known as Bo and Bea, respectively.  They are both English Bulldogs but you’ll never meet a duo more different from each other. Bo is an athletic, carefree surfer boy, always ready for the next adventure.  Bea is a neurotic, loving chubby little fuss-budget who’s favorite thing in the world is to ride around, perched on the front of the shopping cart at Home Depot. (Think Leo DiCaprio on the bow of Titanic and you’ll know how she rolls; she’s the “Queeeeen of Home Deeepooot!) Bea’s birthday is St Patrick’s Day so here they are, all dressed up for the occasion.

Dog of the Month – May 2012

Charlie Mooch Glennon was born at Circle M Farms in Colony Oklahoma in November 2007.  His Mom and Dad are purebred Australian Shepherds, true working dogs who spend their days herding cows, prize quarter horses and lots of little humans.

Charlie came to Seattle at the end of 2007 to live with his current Mommy. At five months Charlie began herding other dogs at the dog park. He nips and nudges his housemate kitty, into corners, off the bed and away from the holy kitchen.

Charlie loves to play soccer and can destroy a tennis ball in 7 seconds flat. His favorite activity is swimming. He loves to fetch logs, the bigger the better! Charlie is quite intelligent and he and his best friend Buddy Curran are excellent fence security testers. If there’s a hole, they’ll find it.

Charlie is a red merle with beautiful blue eyes and bubble gum tongue. He is often referred to as the “pretty girl dog” and he always accepts the misgendered compliments with grace. He is a cuddly love who is content to just be with his people all the time.

Dog of the Month – April 2012

Name – Breia Angelina Pasonno Gabor Gauthier

Age – A true lady never divulges her age

Hobbies – Hobbies are beneath Breia.  She does enjoy dominating all the other beings in her world, including her human, Glenn.  In addition, she is obsessed with getting the ball.

Breia was born a diva and continues to amaze and delight her owner, who feels he is more handsome with her on the end of a leash.  Breia lives the life of luxury, with an eclectic art-filled home and leopard print bed.  Although considered the “mean girl dog” on the playground, she is never viscous – she simply lets all the other dogs know she is in charge. Period.

A pure-bred Belgian Tervuren, Briea is incredibly smart, has a wonderful personality, and her smile will stop you in your tracks! Of her many talents, most entertaining is watching her find her human’s cell phone and bringing it to him when it rings.  Briea also enjoys evening cookies and cocktails on the patio. WOOF!

Dog of the Month – March 2012

Milo was a found stray in a field in southern California at about 8 weeks old and taken to a high kill shelter.  He was rescued by the wonderful people at Saving Paws of Washington where we found him and he found us.  We fell in love with his little face online and it was all over.  He’s now adjusting to his new forever home wonderfully.  He loves people and other dogs and is such a sweet boy.  We’re all looking forward to many years of playing together!

2011 November Dog of the Month

Bryan is a 4-year-old Giant Schnauzer that has been my constant companion since he was eight months old.  I love big black dogs, and Bryan came into my life by a vet who was intent on re-homing him after he’d been backed over by his first owner, crushing his hip, then abandoned at the vet.  Poor dog Bryan.  ANYWAY, he’s all patched up now and he loves getting hair cuts from Elaine of Rub-a-Dub Doggy in Niles, MI, and riding in the front seat of the car.  Although he weighs just over 100 lbs, he’s still very much a lap dog, and he craves treats, petting, and tummy rubs.  He does not like to walk in the rain or when another dog tries to eat from his bowl.  His shaggy beard soaks up water like an old-fashioned cotton mop whenever he gets a drink.
